Polaroids

Statement

Polaroid film has a magic that I’ve found in no other film. I think that’s why when the Polaroid Corporation announced in February of 2008 that they were discontinuing the product, many were upset and scrabbled to stock up on the instant film. I have a SX-70 from the 1970s and when in 2006, they phased out its “Time-Zero” film I stocked up and even now have boxes of the film in my refrigerator.

For those of us who love Polaroids, it’s hard to explain the beauty we find in the film. With its magic, the polaroid forces us to pay attention to the subject within its frame. It elevates the instant scientific artifact to the level of fine art.  While shooting, the photographer is obliged to reevaluate ordinary objects around them and strip them to their simplest elements of color, shape, and texture.
